Williston, North Dakota – The DAPL project consisted of almost $4 Billion in work across the United States. CMG’s roll on this project consisted of the civil work and development of 2 of the 6 terminal locations in Western North Dakota. Our scope included earthwork, aggregate production, hauling and placement, structural concrete, SWPPP installation and management, quality control, storm drain installation, and drilled piers for oil storage containment facilities.
The complexity and critical path of the project along with the national economic implications of not completing the project on time, required extensive preplanning during the design phase prior to the execution of our work up to 1 year in advance of the work taking place. CMG’s project management team consisted of Project Managers, Project Estimators, multiple Project Engineers and Superintendents. Many of the design drawings for the project were issued concurrent or post construction activity. CMG’s team worked closely with the Owner, Engineer and other parties to ensure the work met the Owners expectation.
CMG’s scope of the work was completely in the critical path of the project and during preplanning it was determined through production and resource analysis that our work schedule would need to be multiple shifts per day, 7 days per week. CMG organized and managed up to 100 craft in 12 hour shifts to complete the work safely, on time, and within budget. During the preconstruction process we presented several Value Engineering options to reduce cost and schedule for this critical project. CMG successfully completed our portion of the work on schedule contributing success to the overall project.
